Re: Foreign Birth Registration Query

Good Morning, Photos, I attached loosely in a clear packet with the application / supporting documents. I would recommend Special Delivery if in the United Kingdom otherwise the best registered post in your country. I would also recommend a pre-paid self addressed envelope (to the same standard as a...

Re: GRO Copies

GRO Copies are copies of the original which will suffice.

You will need at least the original or GRO copies of ALL required evidence.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

I have finally received my FBR confirmation. This took 7 months from submission (London Embassy) to receipt. Now to apply for the actual passport. Any idea how long it will take to get the passport, I'm hoping with the recent FBR approval and therefore checks that this should be much more straightf...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

My husband has received an email from the London embassy telling him that his FBR application has been sent to Dublin, and is at an 'Advanced Stage' of processing. FYI he sent his application on 4 October and it was received on 5 October. Hopefully he might get his certificate by the end of April. ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration witness?

It is not a requirement to personally know the applicant as a witness and there is no length of time required to know each other. You simply need to get someone in one of the currently accepted professions (I stress they are currently employed and NOT retired). If you are in the state the Garda Síoc...

Re: Foreign Births Registration - Need to move while waiting

Out of interest why did you not send it to the Embassy in London? That's where I sent mine in Aug 2016 but apologies if it changed since then. Mine took 4 months Send them an email they should be able to log it under your ref you should've got when applying. Failing that. If you're staying in the UK...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

I have 2 paternal Irish grandparents and am gathering the certs and info needed at the moment. My father never held Irish citizenship and the first thing I've niticed is the online application asks me how he gained it, well he didn't. Both my Irish born grandparents were born in the 1880s in Dublin...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Hi everyone, I qualify for Irish citizenship via my mother's father, who was born in Ireland. The problem is that I am not in contact with my mother, and have no way of getting a copy of her ID. Is there any possible way to get around this problem ? You should be able to get everything yourself. Mo...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Just wondering if FBR contacts the person who vouches for our identity on the application and if so, how long before the application is approved is the contact made? That would be a pretty good indicator that the application is being processed. FYI They didn't check with my "contact" for my Registr...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Good Morning, Good luck to all of you who have joined us in waiting for your FBR to be approved. As Doomster has said it has taken roughly 4 months per application, although I believe the consulate is still estimating 6 months. I would like to tell you all I now hold an Irish Passport! I received it...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Hi wavey, I read that you are hoping to get by on one passport and prefer an Irish one over a British one. Is it the case that for a uk resident an Irish passport is always as good as a British one? I'm thinking more about readmission to the uk after brexit rather than minor visa fee differences ar...

Thanks everyone. The biggest issue for us right now is just the time line. But with SA being in such a b...

Re: Asylum while waiting for FBR? (South Africans)

Thank you so much for all the replies and help. My wife's father went over to the UK in 1982 and got his Irish passport then (after she was born) due to his father being born in ireland. He has lived in the UK since then, on his Irish passport and has never actually resided in Ireland. I'm not fami...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Evening Doomster I would not worry too much about the SAE I'm sure I read it whilst fine-reading the paperwork and it definitely wasn't on the DFA.IE page or print out of application. I did read if an SAE was not sent then when sending documents/certificate back they would only send first class Roya...

Excellent news h0b0. I appreciate your responses.
I was going to renew my British passport this week but will hold off for a few more aweeks. I fly late January to the US so that is more than enough time if my FBR comes this side of 2016.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?
