National Insurance Number?

I called the Job Centre Plus early last week to get a national insurance number. They asked me what nationality I was, where I got my spouse visa, and then where I was living. I was expecting them to arrange an interview... but they didn't. Instead, they sent me an application by post.I filled it in...

Date of Visa Activation.

I just got my 2 yr visa.... it says it's valid from 08/04/2010-08/07/2012. On the forum, people say you have three months to activiate it. (where exactly is this on the UKBA website?) On the application I wrote down my proposed travel date as the 5th of June. Does that mean I can travel anytime with...

I got the visa! Thanks for keeping in your thoughts you guys! :) I'm so happy. No interview, no additional documents needed, and not even a letter with the DHL package! To be honest, I'm quite surprised as we didnt have a lot of original documents. Oh well, I'm not going to complain. Good luck to ev...

Thank, Elana.

I need to take a serious chill pill.

I've never heard of a spouse visa being issued in four days... which makes me think the result is otherwise.

My staus just changed from "Arrived at the Visa Section" To "With courier. Attempting delivery" It will probably take a few days to get here as I'm far away from Rome. It only been four days in processing at the Rome embassy. Is that a bad thing???? Do people get visas acceptances that quickly??? I ...

Congrats!

That's great news.
:)

That was really quick, too.

I hope mine is just as quick, though I doubt it. Apparently, applications in Italy take around a month or two to process.

Thanks DesignChick. :) Good luck to you, too. Everything works out in the end. I'm surprised they called your husband! Esp if you provided a letter from him. What did they ask him? To stmellon: I applied from the Rome VAC. But, hopefuly, the officer will see the documents and disregard the checklist.

That's what I thought! She also wrote the my marriage cert was a photocopy when it was actually a notarised copy. My husband original payslips are now labelled as "copies" too since they haven't been stamped and signed by his employer. Basically, everything I included in my application that was of c...

just turned in my settlement application....

everything went alright... had to pay 800 euro. i had a question. The lady who took all my documents said that my original bank statements (the ones the bank send in the mail) are only considered copies. she said it would only be considered original if it was stamped and signed at the bank. also, on...

What's your profession?

I was just curious about what people do here on this board, especially those already in the UK. Have you found it easy to get a job in the UK? Is the job situation looking any better? (last time i was in the uk, it was dismal) Are there any industries that are hiring right now? Also, how old are you...

I'm just paper clipping mine and putting a sticky (post-it note) on the outside of each document saying what it is. then i'm using a big paper clip to bind each section together (like relationship, bank stuff, etc). on top I'm putting an itemized list of stuff. I'm doing it this way so that if they ...

ha ha...
if they lose my husband's passport, they (meaning the embassy) are going to be the ones replacing it as he's a UK citizen.

good point though.

In my case, it's simpler just to give the original. I live in a small small town..... like I'm using dial-up for internet (I'm not joking...fast speeds are rare around here). We have to travel 5.5 hours by train to the embassy to hand all the paperwork in. It would save us a lot of time and hassle j...

right. would it still be okay if we both submitted both our passports for the spouse visa? We have to submit the supporting documents in person so we'll bring just normal copies in case they want those instead. the reason is that we live in the middle of nowhere right now so getting certified copies...

i was wondering.
my husband and i are both in the country where we will be making the application and we wont be travelling during the process.... so i guess we'll just give them our actual passports.

:)
thanks

Real passports vs certified copies?

When turning in the application for a spouse visa (in person), is it better to turn in your (and your partners) real passports?

Lots of people here are turning in certified copies; is there really any benefit to doing that?

It seems like a hassle.

"True NI is nothing to do with tax code if you are a jobless."

yes...

i think employers are bit suspicious nowadays about hiring foreigners until they are present in the country.

grr.. uk employers

Sorry, this is just a rant. My husband and I are moving to the UK this summer and we're currently job hunting. We're both in the same profession so we're applying to the same organisations. He's got several call-backs from places and I have yet to have one. (BTW, Im more highly qualified and have mo...
