Re: Certified letter for visiting parents now that no visa is needed?

Thanks for the replies! Yes, it was indeed at Bogota's airport. I also suspected it was some clueless employee (or just someone who gets their kicks from stressing people out unnecessarily - people exercising their "micro-power" as a former boss used to say) but it does make you wonder. I guess the ...

Certified letter for visiting parents now that no visa is needed?

I am originally from Colombia but been a UK citizen for almost seven years now. My parents have come to visit about 5-6 times now, requiring a visa each time, including earlier this year. However, the UK has now (thankfully) removed the visa requirement for Colombians on a short/tourist visit. Havin...

Re: Passport received but documents missing after 3 weeks

I believe in this case the best course of action is to contact HMPO via Twitter. HMPO seems to have a different department for social media complaints and this seems to make things much faster. For my application, I have added a Royal Mail tracked envelope and a letter stating why I need the docs r...

Re: Passport received but documents missing after 3 weeks

Thought I would share here in case someone is suffering with this issue as well and jumps straight into this topic. The delivery of the documents was a disgrace. Called HMPO about two weeks after the passport approval but they just said that it is taking up to three weeks to return documents and tha...

Re: British Passport application processing timelines (only)

Wanted to wait until receiving everything before posting timelines so here they are. An unnecessarily long, tortuous and stressful process. Type: 1st adult passport after naturalisation Method: Online Passport Office: HMPO Peterborough Online application submitted: 13/10/2021 Email sent for identity...

Re: Passport received but documents missing after 3 weeks

OK. So it now shows up in the TNT tracking page and has a target date for delivery this week but no "scans". Fingers crossed that there are not too many delays as we need one of those documents very urgently. *sigh*, everything was so much easier when I applied four years ago. Did it through my coun...

Re: Passport application - 2nd request to confirm identity

Yes, I know. First time we worried a bit wondering whether there was something wrong with the application and whether the whole process was going to start all over again. The second time we were more frustrated but we already had the third candidate so got them to verify identity pretty much within ...

Re: Passport received but documents missing after 3 weeks

Hmmm. Yes, we called earlier in the week and they said that it was taking up to three weeks. Quite something if it turns out that the return of the documents could end up being the slowest part of the whole process! Also makes you wonder what would happen if you needed the documents urgently during ...

Re: Passport received but documents missing after 3 weeks

In a similar situation and just saw this piece of news https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59409509

Does anyone know if it would be possible to call HMPO and get them to send the documents by Royal Mail for those of us who selected "secure delivery"?

Re: Passport application - 2nd request to confirm identity

Hi. We recently had the same issue with my wife's passport application (1st passport after naturalisation). reading some of the previous posts here, even when people asked HMPO they weren't given a reason. We just asked someone else to do it and, to our surprise, the next day we got another request ...

IRL validity after more than two years outside of the UK because of Covid travel restrictions

Hi all, A relative has has had an ILR for a long time, but then she moved to Singapore and has been there for a few years now. She had been travelling back to the UK every couple of years to make sure that her ILR didn't expire and was meant to come back last year to keep it valid. However, because ...

Re: Passports to send for passport application

Thanks. Actually No. 4 was voided (perforated throughout with the word "void") when it was renewed as this country does not allow more than one valid passport at a time. I thought the same happened with No. 1 but I just checked and has nothing. I guess this means that she will then need to send 1, 2...

Passports to send for passport application

Hi all, My wife will be attending her naturalisation ceremony in a couple of weeks and the idea is to submit the passport application pretty much that very same day. She currently has dual citizenship (British will be the third - this is all known by the Home Office during the multiple visa and natu...

Re: Meaning of "retired from" recognised profession

Hmmm. That's unfortunate. And that's precisely the problem. The person we used as a reference for the citizenship application is not a UK citizen so is not eligible to be the identity checker for the passport application. Sigh... these definitions are so awkward. We know lots of UK professionals but...

Meaning of "retired from" recognised profession

My wife has just received confirmation that her citizenship application has been approved. Looking at the requirements, we need a UK national working on (or retired from) a recognised profession. What is the meaning of "retired from" in this context? It is like is now a pensioner or that they did th...

Re: Leeway on absences during the last year

Hi. Asking this question in this thread instead of the one where Zerubabbel posted the original response just to keep things consistent. We ended up spending exactly 100 days outside of the UK. As per the document that Zerubbabel linked in the other thread, discretion should be exercised automatical...

Re: my friend on PR stayed 105 days outside in last 1 year

Hi all. Apologies for bumping this up again. We ended up spending exactly 100 days outside of the UK because we had to care for my father in law who had undergone surgery. As per the document above, discretion should be exercised automatically. We are filling in the form and there are two questions ...

Ah, wasn't such a stupid question after all. Thought they couldn't be related to me but thought it was OK if they were to each other.

Thanks for this!

Can both referees be a married couple?

Sorry, I know this is a stupid question but just want to be 100% sure. Is there any issue with both referees being a married couple? They are very close friends and have been for over five years. One of them is a journalist and both are British Citizens so they tick the boxes, but just wondering if ...

Re: Applying via marriage or 5+1 year residence. Any advantage?

Sorry to bump this up but I just had an additional question. Am I right to think that as she is the spouse of a British citizen (i.e. me), her application will be automatically processed as such? Was looking at the guidance and some videos of the online forms and there doesn't seem an option to sele...

Applying via marriage or 5+1 year residence. Any advantage?

Hi all. My wife has finally decided to apply for citizenship. She could apply via the marriage route (we've been married for 9.5 years and I became a British Citizen four years ago) or she could apply via the ILR route (she's been living here for 9.5 years, initially as the spouse of a Tier 2 via ho...
