Settled status: 'You must be in the UK to apply'

As a member of one of the eligible groups for the current settled status pilot, I'd like to apply, but I am currently overseas. The online application states 'You must be in the UK to apply', but it doesn't ask you to certify that you are in the UK. Does this mean 'Your application is invalid if you...

Questions about new 'Statement of Intent' released today

Hi everyone, I've just had a look over the government's new 'Statement of Intent' about Settled Status, and I had a couple of questions. I realise this is just another preliminary document, so nothing is final yet, but: Firstly, when discussing absences, it says these must not exceed 6 months in 'an...

New requirements for settled status

According to the immigration minister , Brandon Lewis, the new 'settled status' application which will go online in late 2018 will consist of six to eight questions, which will take a matter of minutes to fill in. The CSI requirement will no longer be enforced. Neither will other (as yet unspecifie...

One month gap between study and work?

Hi all, Apologies if this question has already been addressed, but I haven't been able to find a relevant thread. I'm about to complete my PhD and have an employment contract lined up for a postdoc. But the contract begins one month after my PhD deadline, so I believe for that one month, I will neit...

Re: Advice: US/Italian dual citizen living in UK with US wif

Congratulations on having your Italian citizenship recognised. I am also a US citizen, originally in the UK on a visa, who had my Italian citizenship recognised while I was already here. Obviously, your wife is allowed to live in the UK as your dependent, but you will need the EEA registration certi...

Re: Please help

However, I don't really see any problem since he/she has visa. They only check visa. His or her figure print mostly was taken when he applied visa. Unless it's a counterfeit visa. It seems like this person is requesting advice on how to enter the UK illegally. I think this thread should be deleted....

Re: investigation letter from home office.

The scanned letter is written in absolutely terrible English, but supposedly signed by someone with an English name. It is almost certainly a forgery. Perhaps you've been a victim of some sort of mail fraud?

Re: Looking for a future in the UK?

It's harder than ever to get a work visa to the UK, and the government announced yesterday they're going to 'crack down' even more on skilled non-EU immigration. If you are really interested in finding a way to migrate to the UK, consider doing a PhD here. You can stay on for a year after your PhD u...

Proof of funds for EEA1 (student)

Hi everyone, I am about to submit an application for my EEA residence card as a student. I noticed they have changed the requirements for evidence of funds to support yourself. Would it be sufficient to provide a notarised affirmation that I have sufficient funds, as the form suggests? My parents ar...

Re: Right to see specialists on the NHS

Hmm, but what do you have to do to be considered 'ordinarily resident' for the purpose of NHS coverage? According to this page: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/healthcare_e/healthcare_help_with_health_costs_e/nhs_charges_for_people_from_abroad.htm it would seem that if you are living in the UK...

Right to see specialists on the NHS

Hi everyone, A friend of mine (Irish citizen who has been resident in the USA for many years) has just relocated to the UK, where she is now in full time employment. She went to her GP and asked to be referred to a neurologist because of a long-standing medical problem, but her GP told her she is no...

Any news on this? Any chance this case could make it possible to apply for PR without having had CSI?

Thanks very much! What I'm having trouble understanding, though, is what is actually the minimum requirement here? Is it just entirely up to the subjective opinion of the caseworker, whether they think you have demonstrated you can support yourself in the UK? Or are there actually written guidelines...

Documents for ancestry visa

She would like to apply for an ancestry visa through the embassy in Bangkok, but she is unclear about the necessary documentation. From what I...

Unusual technical question re: exercising treaty rights

Hi everyone, I am in a slightly unusual situation. I have been resident in the UK with a student visa on a US passport for several years. I am about to acquire an Italian passport through ancestry. However, under Italian law, this does not mean that I will now acquire Italian citizenship, but rather...

In the UK, the distinction is that taught masters typically involve 1-2 years of teaching with a dissertation, while research masters typically involve 1-2 years of research for a longer dissertation, and only very minimal teaching. I am fairly certain most US masters courses would be considered tau...

Hi everyone, My wife is hoping to apply for a Tier 1 visa. She has a couple of questions about the way in which earnings are calculated. The first one is: She is working in Egypt for the Egyptian branch of an organisation based in Malaysia. She receives her salary from Egypt and was hired directly b...
