They don't give back the cancelled Indian passport anymore. They keep it with them and all you get back is a piece of paper (surrender certificate). Is this true? With regards to no of days PIO is slightly better than OCI but i think u have enough time to apply for OCI as well since OCI at max takes 1 month from the date of applying in person. Are you sure? I just called passport helpline and lady said you need to send your certificate as well or apply as family application. Bit confused. Any idea??

Do I need to fill details of last 3 years or 5 years in the form? Keeping in mind, he was away more than 1.5 yrs (approx. 600 days) in last 5 yrs but only 120 days away in last 3 years. And he was not in UK exactly 3 years back.
