Re: PIO to OCi conversion

Ha :D The Indian Govt. babus are at play once again now with the PIO to OCI conversion :D Will this saga of confused Indian minds ever end??? Now the govt has given another final date for converting PIO to OCI :).. compared to the earlier circulars in May and June 2015 saying its optional, and there...

Re: PIO to OCi conversion

Phew! Thanks to the Indian govt.,... finally it looks like they have come to senses about the painful issues involved in the conversion process. After my post earlier on (as above), I attempted to start the conversion process, since it was made mandatory at that time (in April), and I was asked to s...

PIO to OCi conversion

Hi, I already have a current PIO card (issued 10 years back). The Indian govt. had announced recently in Jan 2015 that all PIO cards issued earlier on were all deemed to be OCI cards, for travel and other related purposes and were valid for lifetime. There was no need to convert anything. I thought ...

Is notary affidavit reqd. for PIO to OCI?

Hi All I am thinking of getting the OCI card for me+ wife + daughter. We all hold PIO cards currently. I am in double minds now whether to go for this OCI card at all, since the PIO cards are deemed to be OCI anyway. Also the other factor that is not clear to me is that apparently the wordings in th...

Re: New OCI & PIO Merge Start date?

Thanks ban.s. Given that detail, I will apply for the converting to OCI visa now. Their PIO page web site says that i could simply apply for the OCI card by using the OCI Msic. services process. But the main OCI page says the entire standard OCI application procedure is to be followed even for conve...

Re: New OCI & PIO Merge Start date?

OK thanks ban.s. So you mean the NEW OIC program is still a valid one to come through - although in near future. In that case, i suppose there is no point applying (or converting from PIO card into) the existing OCI card now. Do you agree? It would have been a help if the HCI did actually suggested ...

Re: New OCI & PIO Merge Start date?

Thanks ban.s I was about to apply for misc service to update my renewed passport number into my PIO card. Now I will directly apply for OCI card then. I know I can still carry this PIO card and not have to apply for OIC card, but I think when dealing with govt. authorities it is better to get the OC...

PIO card update for lifelong validity?

Hi I have a PIO card issued several years back, now i am going to send it out to HCI for updating my new British Passport number (since i renewed mine recently), into the PIO card. I am filling up the the Misc. services form, and in the section where it asks "what services do you need", I was wonder...

And Namo Ji has implemented it too within days :). Great stuff :)
I am certainly happy with this quick PIO status update.

Re: OCI Visa

Yep, this why I am always passionately against going for OCI, although I was tempted to go for it many times just by looking at many people going for it. But every time I hear these kinds of stories or changes, it makes it clear to me that OCI is something I do not want to go for, and will stick wit...

Newly Naturalised Brits + ESTA travel experience please.

Hi Since this is closely related to newly naturalised British Citizens, I am posting this here to get some feedback please. I find that the USA forum is not that active at all - there is absolutely negligible response for posts there! (Canada forum is even worse!) I request anybody who has naturalis...

ESTA travel to USA - question.

Hi,

When travelling with ESTA authorization, does one need to take any specific set of documents to prove strong ties to UK, when entering USA port?

Thanks

Guys, I have had a detailed chat with one Chartered accountant in my home city in India about all this. Quite a bit there is to digest, but as a summary of it all is... He says it is compulsory to apply and get a PAN card, otherwise I won't be able to do practically anything there - including openin...

Thanks. So it looks like there is no set maximum time limit that we need to keep holding on these past documents :( Its interesting. OK, so still people will need to get the PAN in one case or the other. So getting back to my original point, then for those of us PIOs and OCIs, who could be depositing more than 50,000 in Indian banks or doing other such transactions that require PAN card (one day or the other we will be doing one ...

Indian PAN card - KYC details? Any help appreciated.

Hi Has anyone applied for their Indian PAN card (Permanent Account Number) recently? When i left India way back in 2000, it was not a concept at all then (or may be was not compulsory at least). The application form (for foreigners – 49AA?) asks for the applicant to fill up a section called “KYC” (K...

Ban.s - i agree to your nice interpretations, etc. But in a real practical world, if a family of 4 (with children there) get stranded in the middle of nowhere in the planet, where a port officer is questioning the whole status thing before they let someone enter the country, do we think this little ...

PIO, due to the fact that you cannot stay for more than 6 months unless you register with the police does not give you that peace of mind Actually, when i was in India last time, i went to the FRRO office to enquire on this (also just so you know you do not need to register with police station ;) a...
