Re: Alternative Evidence of Residence

Yes official documents from employer and government department should suffice. You could add any council tax, voter registration or medical-related documents into the mix if you have them. Thanks And just to clarify: Fact that my emplyment started on 2 September 2013, but HMRC records reflect the e...

Re: Police came to my house and effect in naturalisation

You live in Scotland? Do you have children? If yes, then in that case the Police will likely be sending a report of this to the "Named Person" for your kids. Be careful friend. This is how they start "building a picture" in order to maybe take your children away from you. They'll try to paint it as ...

Re: citizenship biometrics question

Why do people use this forum to ask utter useless kind of questions? And then other's jump in with all kind of suggestions and advice. I mean, is it really difficult to carry a passport, BRP or driving license? Why not just carry them? If someone asks for them, you have them. If they are not requir...

Re: citizenship biometrics question

Interesting - thanks for the tip.

I will make sure to have my BRP with me as this is usually accepted as ID.

Now that my bona fides for asking have been (presumably) approved...

I have done some research and the Post Office website suggests to bring the Enrolment Notification Letter from the HO.

But, do I also need to bring a form of ID such as my existing Passport or BRP?

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Are LTD directors self-employed

Or you could just look at what the law actually says, right here:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/197 ... /7/enacted

HMRC, as much as they would like to be, are not (thankfully) the law.

Re: citizenship biometrics question

Letter not yet received. Am asking ahead of time as need to send off Current Passport as ID for exchange of country of origin driving licence for a GB Licence with DVLA. 5 year deadline for said exchange is approaching. Timescale on this is circa 4 weeks for return of docs. If BRP or Passport can be...

Re: Are LTD directors self-employed

The joys of too much information... HMRC website is wrong, as it often is. It's not the law. Consider the following simple yet common scenario: Ltd Co Director pays himself a salary via PAYE. He pays himself no Dividends as Owner. What additional income / tax liability has been missed in this scenar...

Re: Are LTD directors self-employed

Directors don't need to do Self Assessment solely by dint of their role as Directors. Directors will either receive a salary, in which case they will be paying tax via PAYE or They will pay themselves dividends as Shareholders (in the case of Director/Owner Ltd co's) in which case, yes, they need to...

citizenship biometrics question

Hi all,

For the biometrics appointment, what do I need to take with me? Is there a specific type of ID required, eg,

BRP
or
Passport

etc?

Thanks

Re: AN form - referee section

Thank you Follow up My 2nd referee (who is a NZ Citizen), is not fully at ease with the British postcode system. As such, she entered her postcode in the following format: X00-XX When it should have been: X0-0XX It is still correct, just incorrectly distributed between the 2 boxes. Will this be a pr...

AN form - referee section

Dear all,

My second referee entered her name in lowercase rather than uppercase.

She did use black ink.

Will this be acceptable?

Am I the only one who senses a form update coming?

A lot of the new guidance references do not correspond to the Jan 16 form's layout.

Re: "details of your employment"

Sorry to clarify - "a" above is incorrect. If you pay yourself a wage as a Director of a Limited Company, the tax for this will be dealt with via PAYE, and therefore you have no need to perform self-assessment in this case. Only if the Dividends you pay yourself exceed £5,000 in a year do you actual...

I will just leave this here for the future benefit and reference of members who may be searching on this topic: There is no lega...

Re: "details of your employment"

I should stress that I am specifically asking regarding self-assessment here for the 15/16 tax year, NOT corporation tax or annual accounts for the company, which has been trading for less than 1 year and therefore has no first year accounts and no first year tax liability yet.

Hi friends Just topping this post as it has dropped off the first page and I haven't received a reply yet. Here is the crux of my question, for clarity: If I apply for Citizenship now, do I need to sort out and file my self-assessment before doing so for the 15/16 tax year, even though it is not due...

Re: work history - temp working

Thank you. Some additional questions. 1. In Section 6 of the AN Form, specifically 6.7, for JCAP applications, can I select "No" to the question "BRP enclosed?". I prefer to hold on to my BRP until citizenship is granted and then return it within 5 days. If I do select "No", what do I answer for "pl...

Re: work history - temp working

OK. Slightly different question - bit unique maybe. Section 1.28 My mother's full name at my birth was the same surname as my father's - they were married at my birth. However, my father subsequently passed away and my mother remarried and changed her name to my step-father's name, which is her curr...
