I followed your suggestions, so my letter states the start date of WP, which makes a lot of sense!

Fingers crossed and many thanks!

Thanks Daphne. I think working holiday visa is a little bit different though, since: "A working holiday visa differed from UK work permits .... in that its main purpose was not to bring immigrants to the country to fill job vacancies but to grant leave to enter the UK to those interested in working ...

I wanted to ask if it is obligatory (or advisable) to have employment start date stated on HR letter? Can I ask them to state "employed based on work permit" rather than "...

work permit - passport and home address change

Hi,

I've changed my passport and home address recently. I've reported this both to my sponsoring employer and to the police. Should I report passport and home address change to anyone else?

Thank you

work permit and "responsibility allowance"

Hi, I'm on old work permit for a few years now (working in IT). Some time ago I've volunteered for a health and safety role within my sponsor organisation, to help with health and safety issues within our office. I didn't receive any money for that - just pure volunteering to perform health and safe...

Please see the article here: http://www.gherson.com/News/HSMPlegitimateexpectationchallengesucceedsagain.aspx This is the legitimate expectation I suppose? Why do you think there should be .. such an exception .. thanks, good point, but... old WP's didn't sign anything about understanding and agreeing that rules can change in the future, unlike newer WP/Tier 2 applicants. Didn't they add this question as a result of HSMP Judical review if I understand...

I have been reading this thread and would like to put my view: 1. everyone who joined HSMP after Nov'2006 did sign saying "they understand and accept that rules could change in future" and need not remain same for extensions etc.. 2. BUT they also signed saying "I will make the UK as my main home" ...

Hi LCM, That's a really bad situation - they are clearly making use of your dependence on them, which is a modern form of slavery. I'd calm down in such a situation, "agree" with them minimizing the damage to your interest, continue my work, but then constantly look for other opportunities in the ba...

Work Permit (Tier 2) - second job/source of income

Hi experts,
Could anyone please let me know if an employer sponsored Work Permit holder can legally work on a second job without a need to apply for additional sponsorship? If yes, what are the terms/conditions?
Many thanks.

Can't switch to Tier 1 any more?

Hi, I'm 30 years old, have two Master's (one from a well respected UK university) and a BSc. I work in the UK on Tier 2 (Employer sponsored) for 3 years now and earn 36k. I have more than 14 years of work experience overall. However, it seems like I'm not able to apply for Tier 1 (Highly skilled) un...

Switching from Tier 2 (sponsored) to Tier 1 (highly skilled)

Hi, I have a question and would appreciate a competent advise. I'm currently on Tier 2 (sponsored by employer) which will expire in 2.5 years, by which time I'll have full 5 years in the UK. On Tier 1 highly skilled I score 90 points currently. I'm about to turn 30 years old shortly (time flies!). I...
