Mistake in online application

Hi,

I have made a mistake in online application submitted for tier2 extension and the documents haven't been sent yet. Unfortunately, I provided incorrect place of birth of my wife in the application. I have gone through couple of posts and it is suggested, that the incorrect information should be highlighted and corrected in the printed out application form and also changes need to be mentioned in the cover letter.

Is it still the case, because in the payment confirmation mail I got it is mentioned :

Change your application

Your application details cannot be changed. If you need to change any of your information, you must submit a new application.

Could some one please suggest me whether I should send a cover letter correcting the mistakes I made along with the documents or should I cancel this application and start a fresh one.
