MN1 application question

Post by skr27 » Thu May 05, 2011 8:06 pm

Hello
I am thinking of applying for my son (aged 8, born in UK) for his neutralisation. Having looked at all the guidelines and information on the website, I am a bit confused. I got my ILR (on 10 year long stay) and therefore my wife and my son didn't get ILR at that time. So in applying for neutralisation for children born in the UK using MN1 form does both parents need to have ILR?

Sorry if this was covered earlier, I couldn't find a definitive answer in the earlier discussions.

thank you in advance

Either of the parent should have an ILR for a UK born to gain citizenship. You will first have to register your son for as a British Citizen leading to passport!

Thank you so much for your response. I have ILR but not my wife. So its OK for me to register him using MN1 form before I apply?

1. Minors do not apply for naturalisation, but registration as British citizens.
2. You may apply for registration (at least one parent has settled status).
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

Dear Sushdmehta
thank you for clarifying that. I am getting used to the terminologies and complexities. I am thinking of putting the application through NCS soon. I will keep you all posted on the progress.
