MN1 Form overseas travel

Post by Coraldsilva » Thu Jan 24, 2019 12:38 pm

Hello, my son was born in the UK prior to us (his parents) obtaining ILR. All three of us now have ILR, therefore I understand that I can register him as British Citizen using the MN1 Form online, followed with an appointment at one of the new UKVCAS centres.

My questions:

1. Can he still travel outside the UK whilst his application is being processed? The reason I ask is because if his passport arrives whilst we are out of the UK, can he still enter on his Australian passport (with his ILR BRP)?
2. We applied and obtained ILR using the super priority service two weeks ago. Are we expected to go back to a UKVCAS centre for his biometrics so soon again?

Thank you for any help.

1. Yes he is free to travel provided he has a valid visa or ILR to re-enter the UK. Note that there was NO requirement for your UK born child to apply for ILR as it is NOT required for MN1 registration for UK born children who have an entitlement to register as British.

2. Yes, he will have to enroll his biometrics again for MN1. It is required for all applications your make to HO regardless of how recent the last application was.

Thank you for your prompt response. So, in the event his passport were to arrive whist we are out of the UK, he can still return using his Australian passport & ILR? I thought thay all British citizens must enter the UK using their British passport.

Should be fine. Note that his ILR BRP will become invalid once he is approved for citizenship and the BRP card must be returned to HO within 5 days of receiving the certificate.

There is no law that a BC must enter the UK on a British passport as far as I am aware.

Curious to know why you applied for ILR for the child, as you could have saved yourself some money??

Thank you!

We are on Tier 2 General visas sponsored by my husband's work and they paid for all our ILR applications, so thought we'd get it for our son as well to enable him to travel with us and return to the UK.

Fair enough, was unnecessary though and he could still have travel if he had a valid tier 2 dependent visa.

MN1 Submission

Post by Coraldsilva » Thu Aug 01, 2019 2:50 pm

Hello, I submitted my son's biometric data for his MN1 application at a premium UKVCAS Centre on 11 April 2019. He hasn't as yet been granted citizenship. And whilst I understand that processing timelines are 4-6 months, I'm concerned as to whether the HO has even successfully received his biometric info. On the day of the appointment, there were technical issues and so the customer agent had to try a couple of times before confirming that the data was successfully sent. Is there any way to get confirmation apart from her word that it was successfully submitted? It appears from this forum that people get theirs issued within 6 weeks so I am concerned.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

MN1 Change of Address

Post by Coraldsilva » Thu Aug 01, 2019 2:52 pm

Hello, my son's application was submitted in April 2019 and I still haven't received a decision. We have recently moved house and I want to notify the HO so that they send the citizenship certificate to the correct address. Please confirm whether I should use this link:

https://visa-address-update.service.gov.uk/

If so, do I enter in my (and add his details as the dependent) or his name as the main applicant? It's a little confusing that all official documents have been addressed to us, not him. Thank you!
