MN1 Child Registration Application

Post by Joeyjoe » Fri Sep 18, 2020 4:39 pm

Hello,

I have applied for my child (born in the UK 2016) to be registered as British on 21 May 2020. We got ILR earlier in May.

I got an eligibility email for biometric reuse on 31 July and then IDV invite on 26 Aug and then uploaded and submitted on the same day.

My questions please:
  • Will we get an email approval when the registration is approved or will then just send the certificate in the mail? I have seen people in the timeline mentioning receiving an email approval before the get the actual certificate in the mail and others not mentioning an email but only the certificate arrival date.
  • I have seen people submitting with IDV app after my date of submission and receiving decisions so not sure I should be worried?
  • When submitting a "photograph of your travel document" I submitted the ILR BRP of my child as my child doesn't have a active passport and also because the photo on the passport was when my child was few months old and doesn't resembles their face at 4 years old now. Anything wrong in doing this?
Many thanks,

Many thanks,
1) Possibly an email first.
2) Every case is different, dont worry.
3) You should have taken photo of the passport regardless of the old photo but its ok. UKVI will write to you if something else is needed.

Thank you Cullinan!

Just on the passport point, what if the child never had a passport? Surely there should be a provision in the app for that case.. my child only had a expired uk travel document so I thought it doesn’t make sense to upload an expired travel document as a proof of ID.
Also, on the IDV app, when you are asked to upload a travel document, they explain that this step is to match the selfi photo you took to your ID, and then in the type of travel document, there is “other” category so I thought it would make sense to upload ILR BRP since the child never had a proper passport yet and if the purpose was to match the selfi to an official ID, surely the ILR BRC would be better than the photo on the expired passport when the child was 6 month old baby..... I am not sure anymore after your comment though... :)

Thanks again

I think it should be okay. UK born child does not need a travel document to be registered as BC anyways,

Note all forms/IDV/UKVCAS have generic categories etc. Not everything applies in all cases. I believe for a child born in UK, it will not be a problem.

I have now booked an appointment on 5 Oct as I keep seeing people getting MN1 registration certificates although they applied and submitted IDV photos after me.... Not sure anymore that HO is following the date of submission as a criteria of processing 😞
