Moving from Skilled worker main applicant to other category - what of dependent visa?

Post by NamJad » Sat Apr 26, 2025 5:14 pm

Hi all,

I am right now on a skilled worker visa and being made redundant. My spouse and son are on skilled worker dependent visa over me. We all have our current visa validity till April-2026, and I am still serving the notice period.

I am planning to apply for Global Talent Visa from inside the UK, and wanted to check on what would be the legal status of my dependents in the below scenarios, please share your inputs,

* If I apply now for Global Talent Visa for only myself, can my dependents still stay on their Skilled worker dependent visa till the expiry i.e. April-2026? Or I need to apply for their visa category change application (from skilled worker dependent to global talent dependent) as well?

* What will happen when the current employer will inform the Home office of my last working day and withdraw my sponsorship? Even though I myself will move to Global Talent Visa, would my dependents loose their visa status?

* My spouse is also trying to get a skilled worker visa sponsorship. If this scenario works out, and if I move on skilled worker dependent visa, I assume all of our visa applications needs to be resubmitted at the same time(myself, my spouse and our son). Is this correct?

Trying to explore all the options in current situation. Never expected I would be made redundant. Trying to save on the IHS fees for a year, and not sure how to proceed further on this. Kindly advise.

Thanks!
