I am looking into adding my English name to my legal name, as sometimes those unfamiliar with its actual pronunciation may read my name out loud that sounded like a facial slur so it can cause some glances when being called out by a receptionist.
The only issue however, is that I currently hold a BN(O) visa and to change my name in the visa, eVisa website required me to submit an original document of my new name. This could only be done back in Hong Kong which was not an issue, I could request to add an English name to my legal IDs and passports easily. However, since the eVisa would still be in my "old" name and holds my old passport number, I do not know if it would pose some issues during my return to the UK from Hong Kong whilst holding a new passport.
So with regards to this situation, I have four possible solutions that I am unsure whether they are possible:
(1) Use the new passport to enter the UK, explain that I have added a name and show them my old passport that has been deactivated overseas, then update the eVisa in the UK.
(2) Wait until I do a deed poll first, then when obtaining the naturalisation certificate request to have the new name on the certificate, however this will mean the Hong Kong passport is still in the old name (which is where I wonder if there are any challenges regarding this).
(3) Get a naturalisation certificate in the old name, wait until the Hong Kong passport expires then do a deed poll, and apply for a new British passport in the new name.
(4) Get the certificate and a British passport in the old name, then do a deed poll and change the name on the passport (which is the worst case scenario because its uses the longest amount of time to make the change and costs the most).
Apologies for the long message and thank you for your kind advice.
