Naturalisation 3 year or 5 year category

Post by rajcp1 » Sat Dec 20, 2025 11:00 am

Here is my situation:

My husband was on tier 2General from Jun 2019, had his ILR on May 2024 and Naturalised in Aug 2025, got British Passport on Sep 2025.
I came as his dependant on Oct 2019, got my ILR on Nov 2024
I was not in the UK physically in the month of December 2022
Now, I need to apply for my naturalisation and I can see I am eligible to apply on the ground of spouse of British citizen which means they will calculate 3 year residency requirement rather than 5 year.
In my case if they consider 3 year residency, I was not physically present in the counrty in the month of Dec 2022 which can be asn issue.
As I am eligible with 5 year residency requirement and I was physcially present in the month of Dec 2020, how do i make an application in such a way that the case worker consider me in the 5 year route (not as a spouse of british citizen). I couldnt see any options in the form which specifically asks whther to use 3 year or 5 year route.
I know the easy fix is to wait until Jun 2026 and apply, but I have some situations which requires me to apply right away so that I can get british passport as easrly as possible.
thanks for looking in to this and appreciate your tiem and comments

Just apply now and explain in a cover letter you are applying under section 6(1).
