Naturalisation/Citizenship eligibility timeline

Post by zhd » Sun Nov 23, 2025 9:58 pm

I entered the UK in March 2014 as a Tier 4 (Doctoral Student) Dependent. In November 2020, I successfully switched from my dependent visa to a Skilled Worker visa (formerly Tier 2). Recently, at the end of October 2025, I was granted Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) through the Skilled Worker route, even though my 10-year Long Residency route eligibility was due last year.

My question is: When will I be eligible to apply for Naturalisation as a British Citizen? As I have been lawfully residing in the UK for 11+ years, can I apply early?

If you are married to a British citizen you can apply now.
If not you will have to wait 12 months. There's no allowance for long residency.
Either way subject to all requirements met.
