Near Simultaneous Application of HSMP and a Work Permit

Hi:

I am in the final stages of applying for my HSMP. Just received word that an organisation will also apply for a work permit in my case. I am outside the UK. Is this "dual application" allowed ? Any effect on either application.

Secondly, I am not too sure about sending my orginal certificates (IT work exposure - most which is in the UK, USA or Asia Pac) and education (which is from UK). HSMP form says "submit orginal documents where posssible" - do they mean that literally ?
