Need help

Post by Xxmaya » Wed Jul 23, 2025 12:05 pm

Hi,

I have Settled Status in the UK, but I do not have any details about my parents to include in the citizenship application.

I came to the UK as the spouse of a British citizen, and after our divorce, I retained my rights of residence under the EU Settlement Scheme. I later obtained Settled Status independently, not through my parents.

I'm applying for British citizenship based on my own Settled Status. Since I do not have my parents' details at all, is it acceptable to leave that section of the form blank?

Addition to the previous post.

In July 2025, I received a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) from my local council for £350 relating to waste disposal outside my property. I paid the penalty in full and promptly.

This was a one-off incident, and I have had no further issues with local authorities.

Not relevant. Just write N/A.

Declare this in the good character section. As it's very recent, make sure you explain that you understand the mistake and won't do it again.

??? for a FPN that you paid straight away? Do you have any other circumstances that could affect the application?

I have no other criminal or civil matters, and no additional circumstances involving criminality.

She said it was complicated because I received a Fixed Penalty Notice and do not have access to my parents’ details.

Absolutely untrue. You parents' details are not needed and a FPN is a very minor offence, I had one too and needed no help from a solicitor to get approved. Applying for citizenship is straightforward. Feel free to keep asking any further questions in this thread.

Thanks for clarifying and sharing your experience, really reassuring to hear! I appreciate your help and will definitely reach out if I have more questions. Do you think I should include a cover letter with my application?

I included a letter mainly to clarify that I was both employed and self employed. A cover letter is optional. It can be useful to explain how you meet all requirements and what attachments you have included with your applications but not necessary by any means.

Thanks for your response and the advice. I think I’ll include a cover letter just in case — better to be clear than leave anything open to interpretation. Appreciate you sharing your approach!

How many documents are usually needed to prove residence? Can I use one council tax bill for each year, which would make it five papers in total — would that be enough?

If your passport gets stamped at entry/exit from the UK scans of all pages will be enough to prove residence.

I haven’t travelled since January 2019, and my passport hasn’t been stamped since then.

Would a passport from your country normally get stamped? If so, just send your stamp-free passport as evidence and declare you didn't travel abroad.
If that is not the case you will need documents like employers letters, P60s, or government letters.

I hold a Geneva Convention travel document issued by Romania. My first travel document was issued in 2013 and has a stamp from when I first entered the UK on 24 May 2015. It was later renewed, and that document expired in 2019. I haven’t travelled outside the UK since then.

Both of my passports are now expired and don’t have any travel stamps after 2015. I can provide other evidence of my continuous residence, like council tax bills and my tenancy agreement. Would that be sufficient, or do I need to include more documents?

If it is obvious that you could not have travelled, just explain in a cover letter. The HO will accept that the documents they provided to you have expired. Tenancy agreements are not accepted proof or residence.
