need some advice on re-entry, South Korean Passport

My boyfriend is a South Korean and he's entered visa free (south Korean passport holders can stay for up to 6 months without visa). He's currently studying English at University (short term course) which will end before the 6 months. He wants to stay for another6 months until the summer when I'll graduate. One way would be to go back to Korea and come back again which I believe would "restart" the 6 months. However, is it possible to do the same thing but go to a different, closer country instead? (i.e Italy/ France)
