I NEED YOUR ADVICE/OPINION ON THIS

Please your ever reliable advice and opinion is urgently needed in order to save my situation.
I had a one and half year (18 months) student visa in January 2002, and the visa extended for another one and half year (18 months), with the assistance of my University (University of Bradford). However, at the middle of my study, I had a compelling reason to go back home (Nigeria), due to a pressing personal need. My university was therefore notified and they gave me the go ahead.
However, on my return to UK in order to continue my study, I was then informed that the programme I was studying (European Integration) had been scrapped, due to some administrative reasons, therefore it would not be possible for me to continue the programme. The university claimed they had sent a letter to this effect to my address in Nigeria, but I never had it. I was however given a copy of the letter, but it was an “open letterâ€

If your only trangression of the law was to overstay for a month I don't see that as a bar to your return provided the previous history is fully disclosed.

Agree with UKBAbble. It will be noted and is likely to be considered a negative but it can be overcome.

More of an issue is the chances of coming to the UK as a social worker.
You might want to check out the position as to social workers as the need for them has been dropped from MAC.
As for a tier 1 application - you will struggle as you would have to be earning a fortune in Nigeria and be very high up the social worker scale with a large amount of academic papers behind you or a vast amount of experience.

Can you please let us know where you have been in the past 3 years and where did you do your Masters degree?

How many months did you overstay and where are you now?

I believe that if you can let us know these, we can then take it from there.

Thanks for your concern. Since the incidence 3 years ago, i have not left Nigeria and i am still in Nigeria at the moment. I studied my master's degree at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria : Master of Social Work (MSW). My visa ran out April 30th 2005 and was arrested at the middle of June 2005 in Bradford, West Yorkshire. I was in custody(initially in bradford, and later moved to "Campsfield House" in Oxford till the middle of October when i was finally taken home.

As you overstayed by more than 28 days things are not so good.
How did you get caught?

It is kind of obvious you did not fully co-operate with the return process. Otherwise you would have been returned to Nigeria very quickly after your arrest. Did you appeal your removal? Did you hand over your passport or did they have to get an Emergency Travel Document from the High Commission?

I get the impression you did not tell them your UK address otherwise they would have searched the place and taken any and all documents including the one you said you wanted to refer to.

Given the additional information you have posted I feel there is little chance you will be able to return to the UK to work.
