Need your help in ab initio demand

Post by asmr.psgtech » Thu Sep 16, 2010 7:58 pm

Hi,

I have been watching the forum for quite some long time. I had been working in Cardiff(Wales) for nearly 10 months in a leading telecom company as a systems engineer in ab initio and have 5.5 years experience in ab initio. I am qualified for applying the Tier 1. When seeing the demand for Ab initio in job sites it was low for the year 2009. Is there anyone who has some outline of the job demand in ab initio in UK now. Is it better or become further bad? I am planning to apply next week and come to UK on 2010 end. What will be the approximate pay package for ab initio in UK? Thanks in advance.

Not very sure how much this will help but here goes.
2 of my colleagues, both working in Ab Initio recently entered the market to hunt for jobs. Note that they both secured their PR in Feb/March this year and wanted to try their hand at contracting. While both have over 6yrs experience in Telco, they dint have extensive Ab Initio experience but have worked on it. Plus they have over 6yrs UK experience which I am sure was helpful.

Anyway, both these guys secured contract offers - one got a role within a month and the other chap within 2 months. Also, if you have a look on the internet, there are quite a few Ab Initio roles and is considered an 'in demand' role at the moment - but that's possibly because market is slowly picking up now and hence there are more job offers than 2009.

Pay packages vary a lot - if you get into the big consultancies then 5/6 yrs exp pays between £50k and £60k. Most Telcos pay in the £40k range and lower and in general, expect around the £40k range for your experience and try not to go lower than that. When it comes to contracting, rates vary from £300 to £500 per day based on the City and profile of your work

A piece of advice - your only real options of knowing how good your chances are is to come here and try it out. You can apply for roles while in India but you wont get shortlisted at all. Also see other posts on how you can get a UK number via Skype and possibly UK address to seem locally based and that way you may get shortlisted to get a feel of how recruiters/companies see your profile

All the best
KP
