Just over 24,000 applicants applied to register in May and June;

Just over 8,000 applicants to the scheme have arrived in the UK since 1 May; at least 14,400 were here before 1 May, choosing to work legally and contribute to the economy and not exploiting the benefits system;

Since 1 May, we estimate registered workers are contributing over £4 million a week to UK GDP and paying over £0.5 million a week in tax and National Insurance.
So, its about £16 mln a month (gross) split by 24,000 applicants, which gives average salary of £8k per annum, a lot less than average salary in the UK - ~£20k.

A lot of newly arrived immigrants from the new EU countries still don't bother to register in the traditional cash in hand industries.

I don't think they are making lots of money (even without tax) in these industries. The point I am making is that it appears that those immigrants are taking very low tech jobs - £8k is way off average salary in the UK.
