New York Consulate

Post by Growl » Thu Dec 06, 2007 7:37 pm

Hi everyone. I'm marrying an American citizen in January, and shortly after that we'll be applying for a Spousal Visa for her to come into the UK with me- am in the process of gathering documentation for this at the moment and is all going fine. One thing is confusing me though: as far as I was aware, the New York Consulate did personal same-day appointments where the applicant (and potentially the sponsor) could make themselves available for interview and get a decision.

Looking at the site now (britainusa), it seems to talk about you instead applying either by the usual online/post method, or by booking an appointment through an agency (which i know you can do in the UK, for example). it seems to indicate that the agency will hand in documents etc for you, and makes no mention of personal interviews? However, the UK visa thing still talks about the old process.... so

- is the personal appointment system still in place in NYC?
- any idea on current wait times?
- has anyone used any of the agency services/any experiences to share?

info much appreciated, thanks for reading.

In person appointments are no longer available at any of the US consulates.

I'm not sure about processing times, from what I've seen posted on other boards, it still seems to be 1-2 weeks.

Please be aware that she will have to also make an appointment for biometric data to be collected. Here's some info about it.

Also, have a look at uk-yankee.com in the visa and citizenship section. There's a lot of good info specific to the new procedures for applying in the US.
