Non EU citizen, living in France to marry French Citizen

Post by GEOFFRO » Tue Mar 11, 2008 9:23 pm

I'm an Australian citizen living in France since May 2004, the first 12 months on a working holiday visa, and since then on a "visitors" visa, each lasting 3 months.. i try and leave France every 3 months to satisfy this technicality, usually tho, i only go across the border to Italy for a weekend and i do not get a stamp in my passport.

I went to Ireland 2 weeks ago and received a stamp in my passport upon entry into Ireland but not upon entry back into France. I am hoping this will be adequate evidence that i have not outstayed my short term visitors visa in France when i go to get married in early April.

For the last 18 months i have been in a relationship with a French girl and we have just decided to get married. Our reasons are legitimate and we have photos to prove our ongoing relationship. We have been living together since the relationship started.

Basically i'm wondering if anyone has been in/or knows of someone who's been in a similar position and can advise on what sort of information i might have to provide or any potentially nasty surprises i should look out for when organising our marriage. We intend on getting married in France, firstly in a civil ceremony in April, then a religious ceremony in July.

Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated!

You would have to produce documentary evidence from your embassy or Australia that you are single or divorced...ie.'certificate of no impediment'. Before you get married at the mairie or town hall, you would also have to attend an interview in french.
