Post by paknet » Sun Feb 01, 2015 1:17 pm

Hi
Can a Non-Eu National marry an Eu-National in respected EU-Country or any other Eu-Country on Schengen Visa?
for example
Can a brazilian national on Schengen Visa marry his Gf in Slovakia or can they marry in any other Eu-Country with his Schengen Visa?
Regards

That depends on the individual legislation in the respective EU country. I have no idea about Slovakia - the Slovakian partner should go to their local register office and enquire.

It is possible in Denmark.

A late reply, but I just spotted it here and provide some update as I have gone through this.

It is possible without any problems, definitely in Slovakia, as I have done the same thing. I am a Slovak national, met my wife (Iranian citizen) while living in Malaysia. She came to Slovakia on Schengen Visa and we got married in Slovakia then. No problem with this at all. She received her Residence Card in 4 weeks after that (no hassle with that).

Only minor issue was the fact that she was advised not to change her name at that point, as that could cause troubles. Because of her passport and visas, which after marriage and changing names would be technically under a different name. We were advised to get married, get the Residence Card and change name later if we want to.
