non EEA children traveling with EEA Father

Hello All,

I am an Italian citizen, employed and living in UK married with an American (with a EEA residence card)
We have a baby boy who presently has only an American passport with no EEA visa. We (husband, wife and son) want to do a short visit abroad and I am wondering upon return:

- Is it sufficient for my baby to gain entry on the basis that I am an EEA exercising treaty rights - even though he has no EEA visa?

- What documents would I need to bring along, birth certificate and proof of employment?

- If anyone knows of any website which explains this situation I would hugely appreciate.

Why can the child not re-enter the UK on the American passport? And you can then apply for the baby's Italian passport through you once you're back in the UK.

I would imagine that just the birth certificate would be sufficient (assuming that s/he is accompanying you), as it would prove that the baby is an Italian citizen itself and has freedom of movement to the UK in its own right.
