Non-EEA National: What stamp would I get?

Hello,

I am an American citizen seeking to move to Ireland within the next 12-24 months. I have sufficient funds to be able to support myself without assistance, and I plan to stay for longer than 3 months.

I will not need to seek employment in Ireland because I am a writer and I have a network of clients from whom I receive work and submit it back to them via the Internet. Therefore, the nature of my work allows me to work from anywhere. I wish to retain my American citizenship, but am especially interested in moving to Ireland for the purpose of attending a church in Dundalk and enrolling in their Bible school, as well as participating in community outreach. Basically, I would like to become involved in this church and receive their teachings, and support myself through my writing efforts.

Could you tell me which type of stamp I am likely to receive? From the research that I have done so far, it seems like I would get a Stamp 3, since I will not need to seek employment in Ireland.

i would also say stamp 3. but you would have to prove that you can support yourself without employment in ireland

To clarify, all of my current clients are based in America, so in effect, I would like to continue to fulfill their needs, while living abroad in Ireland. I would have no need to pursue work in Ireland.

make sure to tell your intentions to the immigration officer at the airport. otherwise your passport may be stamp with a visit stamp, and the 3 months limit would not be extended then.

In your case, if you can support yourself with your writing, you probably should apply for Business Permission:

Writers, Artists and Crafts persons – while not subject to the capital or employment requirements must demonstrate clearly that they are well known/internationally renowned in their chosen field and are in a position to fully support themselves from income from their chosen craft without recourse to alternative employment and/or social assistance.
