If you are absent from the UK for 2 years or more you risk losing your ILR. Short visits don't always maintain your ILR status. ILR is only indefinite if you live in the UK. You are obviously allowed to make visits home or on holiday.

For citizenship based on 5 years residence, you cannot have more than 450 days absence in the 5 years immediately before the date of application and no more than 90 days absence in the 12 month before the date of application.

If you apply on the basis of 3 years residence as the spouse of a British citizen, then the absence limit is less. No more than 270 days in the 3 years before date of applying and no more than 90 days in the 12 months before applying.

For both 5 and 3 year routes, the other mandatory requirement is that you must have been physically present in the UK at the beginning/samedate of the 5 or 3 year period as the date you apply for citizenship.
