Any body have any idea....what one should do if they want to apply for Italian citizenship? If you are a EU citizen living in Italy 5 years or more?

If you are a EU citizen living in Italy 5 years or more you are entitled to Permanent Residence, if you have been exercising Treaty rights.

After 10 years legal residency in Italy, you may apply to be naturalised as an Italian citizen. Further info here:

Naturalisation forms are available from your local prefecture, and I imagine that this would be the best place to make initial enquiries. In terms of length of residence, I think four years is sufficient if you are a citizen of another EU country.

There is some information here.

Indeed, I see that now. Sorry for giving you the wrong info, OP.

For EU citizens it is 4 continuous years from the date you applied for your residenza in the comune and NOT from the date on residence card was issued (if you were issued with one before Italy transposed Directive 2004/38 into national law.

Keep in mind that it's not uncommon for people to wait 2-3 years after they apply for Italian citizenship.

Ok so I was issued with my residence card...carta identita...Jan 06...but got my permesso di sogg...June 03......now I have the attestamento from the comune....to say I have been in Italy for more than 5 years! I also don't work in the Italian system...I work extraterritorial!

Will this make a difference...as I don't have redditi in Italia?? But work in with a contract in Italy?
