Hey everyone,
I'm starting to prepare for my OCI card application.
I'm applying based on own Indian origin (former Indian passport holder), having naturalised in the UK.
Looking at the process for applying & the supporting documents required checklist, I had a few queries & would be very grateful for some advise please. Thank you!
1. They're asking for "Proof of Employment with job description/Proof of own business/Student Id card/Proof of last Employment with job description (upload online - in employment proof category)"
So my issue is that i'm currently on a career break & stopped working just over a year ago. And have not been working for myself since nor went back to Univ to study.
- So I guess for me I'd need to provide proof of last employment with job decription. I worked for my previous UK employer for over 10 years. Did anyone in a similar situation apply for an OCI card successfully? What proof did you provide?
- I could try contacting the HR dept of my previous employer to request a reference letter saying I was employed there? What all should the letter include? The obvious thing would be - that 'my name' was employed at 'company name' from 'start date' to 'end date' as a 'job title'. That's it right? What else?
- I mean what do they mean by job description, no reference letter I've ever seen includes a detailed job description. Plus the HR dept would never provide a job description in the letter. These letters are usually very short & to the point.
- I could scan a copy of my P45 which I got when i stopped working, along with the reference letter?
- I really don't want to provide copies of payslips. Like 10yrs worth of slips? I might not even have them all. Sounds crazy to provide that. What about P60s (don't want to do that either though). I mean a Reference letter, and copy of P45 should be enough, no?
- Does the online OCI application form have an option for 'not employed'? If not, then would it also be worth uploading a scanned copy of a personal cover letter along with the above Ref letter & P45 where I say that I stopped working on 'end date' & not been working since?
- Searching on here, some people not working in the past were suggested to submit bank statements, but those oci applications were made 6-7yrs ago. No where in the current OCI application guidance on CGI Birmingham, HCI London or VFS Global websites does it ask to submit bank statements for this category?
2. It also says - 'Please ensure you have all the supporting documents in PDF each less than 1MB of size and Photo/Signatures in JPEG format as per specifications before starting online form filling.' - So can one upload unlimited no. of pdfs as long as each is below 1mb size or is there a limit? There are not a lot of docus that need to be scanned for OCI to be fair. May not be an issue at all when i actually sit down to start scanning. But, just curious what others have done for this & scanned in 100dpi - 200dpi? Have you bunched things together in fewer pdfs or multiple pdfs better?
3. With the digital photo, I have Indian passport size photos I used for the Surrender Certificate application. But i don't have a digital copy of them, so plan to just scan the photo in 200dpi & see if I could use that? Any suggestions? How have other people done this without paying again at a photo booth? I have access to a windows laptop connected to a scanner. How are people doing this on an android mobile out of curiosity? Need it to be fail safe! Don't wanna get turned down for poor quality photo/signature after travelling by train to a vfs centre.
4. Also with the digital signature, I plan to put my signature on a white blank piece of paper, then scan it. Again, any suggestions? How have other people done this?
Apologies for the long post, if you made it this far. Thanks again for your help!
