Old HSMP + New wife and Baby

Hello All, some advice needed please.
I'm an HSMP holder, currently in the second year of my FLR (3rd year altogether). While I've been here, I've gotten married, and my wife has a WP. Now we recently had a child.

My wife will be travelling home (USA) for a few months soon, so we've been wondering how to switch my wife over from her WP to become an HSMP dependant, and also how to add my son to the visa.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

what is the purpose of switching her over to hsmp dependent, there is nothing wrong with her keeping her wp status

Well, the main advantage is that she will be able to apply for different jobs, instead of being tied to just one job/employer

with hsmp so volatile lately I would keep your wife on wp, she might need to sponsor you.

of course she does, but she is entitled to maternity benefits, getting on hsmp dependent doesn't help

The general consensus seems to be that I leave things as they are (Wife and Baby on WP, myself on HSMP FLR). I assume this means that we'll have to leave the baby on her WP, and not mine then.

Victoria - I've been here for 3 years, she has been here for 4.

If your wife has been in the UK for 4 years on a WP then I advise she doesn't switch, as she is only 1 year away from getting ILR for the whole family.
