Hi there,

I am a non-EU and I just finished a MSc in the UK. My girlfriend is Italian and we have some plans to get married. My question is, if I marry her am I allow to work in the UK or in Spain following the EU regulations??.

Please some help

Only if you get Spanish citizenship, which is between you and Spain, not UK.

No wait, did you say she is Italian? Why would Spain be involved?

I suppose he is considering Spain as an option to work in the future?

Under EU/EEA rules EU/EEA nationals and their dependents i.e. spouses and children under 18 years old have a right of residence in another EU country. This right is usually conferred by the granting of an EU residence permit which is a simple formality. Apply for a visa/ residence permit at the relevant embassy when you are ready to proceed.

GOOD LUCK.

I am not still quite clear. Should I wait to be a Italian citizen (and live in Italy for the time that they request in order to get the citizenship), or at the moment that I get married with my Italian girlfriend I am entitlet to live and work in any EU country???

Thanks guys..

You qualify as soon as you are married. However your wife must be moving to the other country in an economic activity for you to qualify i.e. she is going to work. Even if she is in a non economic position e.g. a student you may still be granted residence rights...its just more straight forward if she has a job. Living in Italy is a requirement for their citizenship and has nothing to do with your residence in any other EU country. If you get Italian citizenship you may live in the EU by your own rights rather than through your wife (although you would still be married )

GOOD LUCK
