My employer is currently applying for a work permit extension for me. Has anybody recently got one and how long did it take them to stamp and return the passport?

Cheers,

Mark

Trust me. The permit extension stamping and Leave to remain approval takes something like 8-10 weeks these days!

Cheers.

I suppose I won't submit my passport then, but instead visit some friends on the continent and get the new stamp on the way back. I wonder how long it will take workpermitsUK to reach a decision on just the workpermit extension itself and send the letter to my employer...

That's the best thing to do.
But ensure to get the Work permit extension approval first.
Once you get that document in hand, you can then go out and re-enter the country and then get the Leave to remain stamping from the Immigration officer on the entry port.
If you plan to do this, please ensure to re-enter the UK through Heathrow or some other Airports so as to ensure you will get cheked by the UK Immigration authorities.
If you take a Train route to re-enter the UK, your passport may not be cheked and consequently not stamped with the leave to remain.
Having said, sometimes, even when you enter UK through WaterLoo station, if you are lucky, you may have the Immigration checks done so you may get the stamping done... but the best bet to be cheked by Immigration officers is Heathrow airport.
So try that.

Best of lucks.

So what is the status of someone who has the letter from workpermitsUK confirming extension of work permit, but has not recived the new stamp? Are they in status? Can they continue working prior to the new stamp being placed in the passport on return from next trip abroad?

Cheers,

Mark

If Work Permits UK have approved your application, but you are still waiting for your passport to be endorsed with the appropriate Leave to Remain, you are legally able to work.

Yup! Absolutely!
In fact you can continue working without any issues right from the date when the extension application was applied for.
Now that you have recd. the Extension approval... even more good.
You can continue working for the employer...getting the stamp in the passport is just a formal process which does not have any impact on your right to work in the UK.

Hi Guys

Do you know why does it take so much time just to endorse Passport. I have received a letter from WP on 6/05/02 that they are now considering for "Enter to leave".Thay have granted WP for 60 months. But Passport is still with them.

What do they check from Passsport and whats the ideal time to get back my passport.

Your suggesstions will be highly appreciated

Hi,

As far as I have heard, the reasons are -

1. A Huge backlog (Applications from March/April Months are still pending to be cleared it seems)
2. A lot of new staff - hence a lot of training is happeneing, which is apparently eating away the time.

I take it that you have recieved the approval for WP on 6th May,2002.
That means, you are looking at receiving the "Leave to Remain" approval by sometime like 15th-20th of July.

They are defenitely not working on your passports at the moment I can guess.
The passport check phase is over the moment they cleared your WP approval... its just the various reasons that is holding back your passport, I guess.

Good luck.

regards.

Another reason, is that they have taken almost all the work permit related passport casework off the hands of the IND in Croydon, thus increasing their own workloads.

Passports currently taking 6 - 8 weeks from date of initial approval.

Thanks Chris and User

Chris you mean WP Shiefield is dealing all the Workpermit related passports which are supposed to be dealt by Croydon.

I have not sent my wife's and baby's passport as baby got her passport only two weeks ago. Will it be possible if I take their passport to endorse by hand to Croydon after getting my Pasport.

Thanks again.

Yes, almost all wp passport endorsements are now being dealt with in Sheffield.

you could turn up to Croydon in person to get the endorsement. However, they are not obliged to honour your request, so there is an element of risk. i suggest, if you do decide to go, get there early.
