Hi,

I came to UK around 6 months ago on dependent visa. Around 2 months ago, I got a job (IT) . My employer advertise this job in lots of news papers. They got 45 CVs and they selected 2 persons from them.

Now I want to apply for a work permit through my employer.

What are the chances that I will get a work permit and how soon?

What dependents visa are you on ie. what is the principal applicants status?

Some dependent status allow permit free employment which is not restricted to any employer. Advantage is also that potential employers don't have to go through red tape of getting you WP - advertising etc.

Maybe the WP route resolves other issues you need to highlight to the board for further assistance.

As work-permit holder's dependant you may freely take up any employment without the need of additional permits. See <<this page>> for more information.

Yes, I know that's how I am working currently . But due to some reasons I want to apply my seperate work permit.

Can somebody answer my original question that if my company files my work permit then what are the chances that I will get a work permit.

The chances are good provided your employer can substantiate why the applying candidates weren't suitable. The work-permit application itself will require them to justify their reasons.

As Hector has pointed out your chances of getting WP approved depend on you and your employer meeting the conditions for such subject to the level of your WP application i.e.

Tier 1 - No advertising required because occupation is recognised as having
shortages, Intra Company Transfers etc.

Tier 2 - Advertising done. No EU/settled person available etc.

You must of course meet the educational and/ or experience requirements as appropriate.

Once approved your immigration status will be amended to reflect your new WP status - note that you can only work for a specified employer in a specified occupation.

Good Luck

your chances are as good as anyone else's. it all depends on how good the work permit application is. there is a section in which your employer needs to justify why they hired you and no one else. make sure you have excellent reasons (i.e. speak more than one language, lots of experience, etc.). you need concrete reasons and several of them. the whole process, once submitted the application is submitted, should take no more than one month, if even that. the problem is the visa you have now. if you are on a tourist visa, you cannot transfer it to a work permit. you will have to leave the country and come back in with the work permit. it is a technicality the government uses to keep people from coming here on a tourist visa and then staying to find a job. but no worries. you can fill out the forms here, have them approved, and then take off to france for a day a come right back. i know people who have done it. good luck
