my fiance is coming for 3 weeks to visit the uk . He recieved his visit visa and it is multi entry but the embassy in romania limited it to multi entry for just a 1 month period.
he will visit me for only 3 weeks but we had hoped in 2 or 3 months he could come again for another visit .. can his multi entry visa be extended to the full 6 months? ( he paid the fee for the 6 months visa) if his visa can be extended how would we do this? thanks in advance.

Visas (ie Entry Clearances) cannot be extended, except where there are compelling compassionate circumstances. At the discretion of an entry clearance officer, the expiry date of a visa can be extended for up to 3 months, provided there has been no change in your circumstances. Otherwise you should apply for another visa.

Entry clearance (visa) acts as leave to enter and remain in the UK under revised immigration rules. Accordingly the Entry Clearance Officer has deemed that in your fiance's case 1 month leave to remain is appropriate.

While he may extend the visa to 6 months once in country the Home Office will consider the short validity of the visa and query such with the Embassy abroad. Just accept the 1 month decision and let him travel to the UK. He will get a longer duration visa next time as he will have demonstrated following the rules.

Did he actually indicate to the ECO that he was your fiance? It may be that they are concerned you may marry during his visit and proceed to apply for a change in his status "in country"!

yes we made it clear we were in a relationship but had no intentions to marry right now we were honest. He doesnt mind if he has to apply for another visa in the future ( just wanted to see if it could be extended) we think it is because it is his first vist to the uk that the visit visa was limited but were both so glad he can come even for a limited time thanks for your replies.

I am a visa national (I need visa to get to UK) and every time that I apply for a UK visa in my local UK Embassy the date that they stamp on my passport is not the date when de visa (leave to remain in the country) is running out, this is just the time I've got to present my passport at an UK port. The real leave to remain time that you get is the one that the immigration officer stamp on your passport on arrival after asking you the time you want to stay, so I believe your girlfriend can get a longer period talking (two or three months) with the immigration office at the airport.

On the other hand the immigration office could refuse to give your girlfriend entrance clearance if he/she suspects that there is something wrong. My advice is for her not to mention anything about getting married or something like that..

Good luck.

Mauricio,

1. When (date) did you get the visa that you travelled to the UK to and upon which you were given leave to remain by the IO beyond your visa validity?

2. How long was this visa valid for?

As you state despite genuine intentions regarding fiance/marriage as per the initial post it is best to avoid presenting facts that indicate you may settle in the UK where you are admitted as a visitor - this particularly applies to marriage.

Sorry,
I just realize that I've always had student visas and she is asking for visitor visa. In my student visas the date that is really counting is the one stamped at the airport by the immigration office saying all about the public funds starting with: "Leave to Enter the UK...."

I am not sure upon a visitor visa, but I assume that if you get another date stamped by the immigration officers with the "leave to enter..." stamp, this date is up to them and may be different to the one that you've got in the embassy where you have got the visa stamp.

Take care..
