Well as far as I know all IT work permits have been stopped, as there is a glut of IT professionals in the country, and IT contractors are running at about 30% unemployment rate, so I think there is a good chance that your permit has been terminated

Cancellation of his work permit depends only on his employer, British contractors have nothing to do with it. If he has stayed without job for a long time there is serious chance that the Home Office will not extend his permit and/or will not allow him to start working for a new employer.

Its very importent question. First of all you must carefull about your mails.
2 : He can't fire you before notice of 4 week or terms he signed on contract.
3 : If your employer is cunning then may be make another story to kick you.
Be carefull...............

kamasuthra,

The answer is rather simple. If you still have a paid job with your current employer, your work permit is probably still valid. If you have been terminated and are no longer on payroll, your work permit is automatically canceled because it is dependant on you working in that job. The main question would be whether your employer has informed the Home Office that you have been terminated, which is a requirement.

If your employer is nasty and notifies the Home Office (most employers don't), the Home Office will probably send you a letter asking you and your dependents to leave the UK within 28 days, or have another employer apply for a new work permit by the end of the 28 days.

If you get such a letter, you cannot stay past the 28 days; otherwise you will be in breach of the law.
