Can anybody share their experience with the HSMP renewal process? Documents submitted, speed of processing, pitfalls, etc?

I am personally very interested in applications made by people who were self employed at the time, or even unemployed.

Many thanks.

Well I am not self employed or unemployed but I am currently putting my extension application together. I should have it done in the next week or so and will post more details then of the what, where and how of my application.

And of course, I shall let you all know whether it was successful or not!

Best wishes to all,

Don't know yet Joseph. Have to admit I was a little tardy getting it done as work has been a bit nuts for a couple of weeks but I finally sent it off late last week. I hope to hear back from them early next week.

How is the job search going for you? What sort of positions are you looking at?

a) How long they are likely to extend the HSMP?
b) Will they extend for 3 years even in the case of unemployment/or still abroad?
c) Is it some kind of personal meeting at home office or just send it by post and wait for the response?

Hi Ktd - I'll try and answer your questions.

1. It is my understanding that if Workpermits UK decide to extend your HSMP permit, it is automatically for 3 years. That then gives you 4 years in a category leading to settlement in which to apply for ILR.
2. We don't really know yet what the policy will be for those who are unemployed. I tend to think that there wont be too much lenancy for those who have not been able to find work in the initial 12 months - Joseph thinks that they may extend if you are able to substantiate your efforts to find work. No one knows yet. If you have not yet arrived in the UK and made an attempt to use your initial 12 month visa, I can't see any reason why the government would extend that offer for another 3 years. Again this is something that has not yet been proven.
3. It is all via post - I just sent off the appropriate form plus supporting documentation in my application for extension. There are no interviews and you do not have to prove your justification for the 75 points again.

Hope that helps.
Best wishes to everyone in their applications.
LC1.
