Hi Folks,

I have recently be informed that the Home Office is considering dropping the requirements that an unmarried couple will only be permited to obtain a visa if they cannot legally get married which is a requirement under the common law as it provides a bit of a loophole for same sex partner to get into the UK? Does anybody know any more info about this & when it is likely to come into effect (the indication I received was early 2003?).

See http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/default.asp?pageID=1438 for details of common law for unmarried couples.

Never heard anything mentioned about it at all until your post. It's not a loophole it's intended that way because most countries in the world will not allow same sex couples to get married, rather it's of benefit to them.
