Can anybody help? I am currently in my third year of work permit. I intend to apply for ILR after four years next year. However, it seems that i have lost the previous original copies of two 1-year work permits. When i go to Croydon next year, will they accept photocopies?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Photocopies on their own won't be acceptable. Are you still with the same employer? If so they can request Work Permits UK to re-issue the original work permits. Alternatively if you can provide solid documentation showing your work record at these companies i.e. contracts of employment and references showing starting and leaving dates, job description and salary details from the employing company/ies for this two years in addition to the photocopies then you should be ok. Best to give the HO more than they need cos when originals are missing they tend to not give you the benefit of the doubt and will make further enquiries increasing processing times.

Thanks Kayalami. All the three years I have worked with the same employer and the work permit has been extended every year. I will leave to join another employer later this year. Is it wise to ask my present employer to request the original copies (from Work Permits (UK)now or should I wait until the time when I am about to apply for my ILR?

Ask for them now - say you have misplaced the originals and need the duplicates for your records. Only your employer is eligible to apply for the duplicates even though they are historical. A nice chat with your HR people should be all you need.

Good Luck

I didn't realise providing work permits for the ILR appication is required. I know its recommened to bring all the work pemits with you, but I thought pay slips and letter from the employer is what is required. Surely the HO should have all of your work permit history on file in Croydon.

Correct - WP is not required when applying for ILR as Home Office have your records on file. However if you wish to submit a WP in addition to other documentation then photocopies will not do as standard HO practice is to insist on originals or certified copies of documents. Hence my suggestion to get originals if you wish to submit these.
