Hi

I was a teacher in B-School in India. Came here 11 months back and no luck with job. Now as I am planning to go back to India, I got a consultancy offer from Canada ( 1 year project for £ 12000 )and a part time tutor job in University of London ( Just £ 400-500 a semester).
Is it worth to apply for extension?

Thanks in Advance

INMHO I think the lack of a job and thus income for 11 months makes it highly unlikely that you will get an extension. The Home Office takes the view and rightly so in my opinion that HSMP holders are exceptional individuals who should have no problems obtaining employment in their field of expertise despite the economic conditions currently prevalent.

However if you can comprehensivley document the very extensive job searches you have carried out, interviews attended, interviews lined up (incluing the part time job offer) and most importantly show that you have enough money to accomodate and maintain yourself and any dependents without recourse to public funds you may get a short term extension - maybe 1 year against max of 3 years. You may take heart from the fact that once you have some UK work experience employers are willing to take a chance on you.

I recommend you get expert legal help on this perhaps from our hosts www.workpermit.com (note I am not soliciting for nor advocating their services).

Good Luck

What I would suggest to you guys though is (as Kaveri did) to look for jobs outside England using the fact that you are IN the UK (not India) and therefore 'look better' to prospective Western employers. Try Canada Australia etc. Worth a shot.

PS I am surprised though that there are no jobs in government schools in the UK. I thought there was a big shortage of teachers and nurses...maybe no longer? Also to be perfectly honest accent matters - sounds crappy but try and speak with an English/Anglicised accent...there is prejudice out there against 'foreign' sounding ppl
