Hi,

I am self-employed in the UK... I am successfully running my own software development/consulting company in the UK for the past 10 months... and have made a revenue closer to what I had declared while applying for my initial HSMP visa last year.

So I hope my renewal would be a walk-in-a park... we will have to just wait and see.

regards.

Hi Joseph,

Well, its been more than a week since I submitted my application.
I called up the HSMP team today and found that my appliction has not yet been entered into their processing system... they said it will go into the system sometime next week.
The current back log of HSMP renewals is 4 weeks old.
The applications that have been submitted in 3rd of August is what is being processed now... others are still in process.

This is what I got to know from HSMP team.

The moment I get my results I will keep you all informed .

Thanks for waiting with me eagerly for my results.

regards.

Dear User,
Thanks for the update. It's very useful information because it shows that their backlog is a lot bigger than their new form implies.

I spoke to HSMP team and they confirmed my application has been allocated to a case worker on 29th afternoon.

I look forward to get my result on Monday (1st September).

I will keep you all updated.

Hi,

I spoke to HSMP team today and I was told that my application has been allocated but caseworkers are heavily overloaded with work and hence there is a 5 weeks delay in processing renewals.
I have been asked to call back around 20th of September.

I guess there is roughly around 6-7 weeks processing time for renewals.
The currently processed application are the ones applied around 3rd of August.

I will let you all know when I hear more on my application status.

regards.

Can they really hold for passport for such a long time....I may have to travel in between.

is there a way we dont summit the passport and get it stamped only after the approval is granted.

Dear User,

Sorry to hear about your further delay. It's a real problem if you have to travel on business. HSMP renewals are taking about the same amount of time as a settlement application by post!

I think that the reason may be that HSMP renewals are not as straightforward as the original application (just counting points). I suspect there are a lot of HSMP people who are renewing without a job in hand, thus requiring a lot more scrutiny. And HSMP seemed so easy nearly a year ago!

Anyway, it's just a matter of time.

Hi Joseph,

Its not only a problem with travels, but also I am completely unable to take new customers without the renewal decision in hand.
Because if I sign new consultancy agreements for long terms without the HSMP decision in hand, it could end up in real legal issues between me and my customers.
So I am just hiding from my new customers and oppurtunities because I don't have a proper answer for them... having been established very well in the UK, I just cannot tell my customers that I am not sure about my future visa status... it would be really embaraassing to me.
So I am just hiding from my oppurtunities, in the guise of a holiday untill I get the renewal decision.

I have indicated these issues and requested the HSMP team to consider my practical issues and hence to expediate the decision at their earliest... but they don't seem to consider the request.

Anyway, I will have to just hide from my new customers and oppurtunities until I see the final renewal decision.
Its just a shame... but there is nothing I can do... so I will just have to bite the bullet and wait... wait... and wait!

Will keep you all informed about any developments!

regards.

Hi User, Joseph and others

Indeed, the HSMP team should also consider the pratical purpose of their clients.

They should consider how terrible it is if someone cannot travel anywhere, cannot take customers, etc.

Maybe it will be better if the applicant will be let to keep his/her passport while the application is beeing review and only need send their passpot very close to FTR endorsement.

User,

I can see your point although in your case I think you have absolutely nothing to worry about getting your application approved. Given that, I'm not sure that your clients (I assume you or your company invoice them) really have to know about your immigration status.

In my case, I am looking for employment and the potential employer will want to see a copy of my latest visa. When they see that it expires in a few months, they start getting skittish. If they realize that I can't travel for the first month or two, they might look elsewhere. I'll know more first hand about this issue within a few weeks...

Pantaima,
The problem with not giving your passport up front when you reply for HSMP renewal is what happens when the LTR expires? You can't use the passport anyway because you can't reenter the UK anymore on HSMP. At least if you send it in, you can continue to stay in the UK on the same status (and work) while the application is being considered.

Hi,

I just now spoke to HSMP team and explained my situation.
They said business or personal travel plans are not good reasons for them to expediate the renewal application at their earliest.
Nor the reason that I am not able to sign off any new customers.

The only reason they would consider is something like :- serious medical conditions and hence the need for travel out of UK, foreign court orders requiring you to fly out of UK, etc.

I have been confirmed that my application will be taken up for porcessing sometime around 28th September... although my visa expires on 17th of September.

Currently HSMP renewal decisions are getting delayed by 7 weeks.

Technically I do not have to worry since I can continue my stay while the decision is being considered... but still I am.

Will keep you all updated.

regards.

User,
Thanks for the detailed update. It's not the best situation - but what can you do but wait. I noticed that the dates they gave you on the phone are slipping (20 Sept to 28 Sept) so they seem to have some problems there.

Look on the bright side--at least it's still free! I bet it won't be free next year!

Hi Joseph,

I spoke to the officer dealing with my application.
He said he has my application on his desk, but he is working on other cases he has been allocated.
Currently he is working on a case that was applied on the 3rd of August.
He apparnetly has around 134 cases to work on before he can start working on my application.
So atleast I know the fact now - my application has been allocated but not yet even been opened for processing.

regards.
