Zia-ul-Hassan zia Member Member # 6627 | Posted December 22, 2003 11:46 AM Is it true that HSMP consult NARIC every time for international degree compatibility with NARIC.Like in my case I have MSC degree in Computer Science from government recognised International Islamic University. It was a three year degree program and last semester was for a research project(15 credit hours). I see many postings on this board that MSC from Pakistan is equivalent to Bachelor in UK.I also consult one of my colleague who is in PHD program in Manchester UK before submitting my HSMP application to Homeoffice and he confirmed that our degree is equal to MSC in UK he advised me to step forward. Now I am confused what is the truth? I did not send the my MSC research project report with application as it was like 1KG (which was a heavy enough already my documents were 1-1/2 Kg) and I have to pay for that to DHL. My questions are.... Should I send my Project report now before HSMP team decide my case? or wait until I listen from them. Awaiting for your kind response

Thorsten von Thyssen Member Member # 4397 | Posted December 22, 2003 11:53 AM Your project report is immaterial to the application as you claim points for your MSc degree as a whole and not on your project. I can assure you that if you send this project report it will be sent straight to the bin. -------------------- ----------------------------------- |

Joseph01 Member Member # 7141 | Posted December 24, 2003 10:03 AM I don't think that sending the project will help--either they consider the degree a masters or they don't. Try to get points for the masters and see what they say. But since it is a 3 year degree, don't be surprised when they come back saying it's equivalent to a bachelor. Do you really need the points? Zia-ul-Hassan zia Member Member # 6627 | Posted December 24, 2003 11:08 AM Joseph- I am really looking for MSc points, otherwise it will be difficult to get the required points.Note that with this MSc degree I have 17years of education. Also attached my MSc transcripts, as university divided this program as MSC=(MSc provisional+MSCregular+project). It is quite abvious from the documents presented to HSMP team. afzalasm Member Member # 3354 | Posted January 02, 2004 10:31 AM Helo Zia, One thing for sure, they need 17 yrs education for the Master equivalance and if your degree (Bachelor and Master) are of 5 years of study after your intermediate, you should get 25 points for your master. In case of rejection to these points, try obtain NARIC compariablity statements which is very cheap and then make an appeal. I hope this helps. Keep us updated. Thanks. -------------------- Regards, |

Kayalami Member Member # 5984 | Posted January 08, 2004 06:21 PM Zia, AFAIK MSc degrees from Pakistan are equated to a UK Bachelor/ undergraduate degree by both educational institutions as well as NARIC one of the reasons being that an MSc in Pakistan can be achieved over a 3 year course whereas an UK equivalency requires four years i.e. 3 Bachelors + 1 Masters or 4 yrs course leading to award of MSc outright. Accordingly I concur with both Thorsten and Joseph01 that including the project/ thesis is irrelevant as the HSMP team will make an overall judgement based on the degree being an MSc as opposed to some sort of enhanced MSc. Sorry that this may not be the news you expected. -------------------- ---audi alteram partem--- |
Zia-ul-Hassan zia Member Member # 6627 | Posted January 09, 2004 06:27 AM Kya- As I mentioned in my second last post, my MSc degree is three year program after Bachelor degree (2 year program).Let me describe as SSC (Secondary School Certificate)= 10 year

Dip Member Member # 4428 | Posted January 09, 2004 09:37 AM This is quite similar to the Indian Education (not surprising considering they were both one nation). Which is 10+2+3 for Bachelors degree. and then two years for Masters A friend of mine, who is a Chartered as well as a Cost Accountant from India, where both are considered as Professional degrees but in UK for HSMP they originally only considered it as Graduate Degree. He spoke to the HSMP guys, who suggested he gets as much information as possible from the institute. He then got a letter from the President of the CA institute in India stating that obtaining a CA degree in India makes one eligible for perusing Doctorate programme at various universities. This was enough for HSMP to consider it as a Masters Degree. Wish you good luck. |
yahoo Member Member # 4784 | Posted January 09, 2004 10:10 AM Zia , You don't need to put your arguments here rather i would say you should not try to convince people here on this board that ur deggree is MSc Degree because this will not help at all .Its not people here on this board who are going to decide on ur case infact HSMP team and they have a lay out that pakistani MSc degree = their Bachelor Degree .This is a hard fact . Moreover you have already sent ur application so their is no need to worry because there is nothing u can do to influence on HSMP team or their decission so sit tight and relax . Hope this should help , if this was not harsh Yahoo |
