US, UK IT professionals seek jobs in India

New Delhi: Indian IT pros beware, foreigners are all set to enter the Indian job market.

Even as the West continues to lose white-collar jobs to low-cost economies such as India, head-hunters here are getting enquiries from tech professionals abroad seeking jobs in this country -- Asia's third largest economy.

Faced with prospects of job cuts in countries like the US and Britain because of outsourcing, experts here say, skilled foreign workers there are now beginning to explore opportunities elsewhere. India, for a variety of reasons, is a prime attraction.

"With many leading global technology companies now moving high-profile jobs to India, the country has become an attractive job destination," said Anil Mahajan, executive director of Talent Hunt Private Ltd.

"Earlier only call centre jobs were coming to India. But now as companies start to ship high-end research and senior managerial jobs too to India, foreign workers see huge opportunity for themselves here," Mahajan told IANS.

"Till a few of months back, we were getting regular job queries from expatriate Indians who wanted to move back to India.

"But we were also taken by surprise when overseas professionals from countries as far as the US, Britain and South Africa also started to call us up to inquire about job opportunities here. This has now become a trend."

India's vast pool of English-speaking manpower coupled with its sound educational system and training programmes has helped transform the country into a global outsourcing superpower.

The rapidly growing BPO industry has virtually turned the country into an electronic housekeeper to the world, taking care of a host of routine activities for multinational giants.

In recent months, India has also seen the inflow of research and development and high-end technology jobs.

According to a study by management consulting firm A.T. Kearney, financial services companies are planning to move more than 500,000 jobs overseas in order to reduce operating costs by $30 billion annually.

Global technology giant IBM expects to save $168 million annually starting in 2006 by moving several thousand high-paying programming jobs abroad, according to internal company documents obtained by The Wall Street Journal.

US-based IBM says it plans to move up to 3,000 jobs from the US to developing countries this year.

"Most inquiries we get from overseas professionals are for middle and senior level management positions," said an official of a leading online recruitment agency.

"While many overseas job seekers want to work with multinational companies here, they are also not averse to getting a placement in marquee Indian companies," the official added.

"If outsourcing of jobs to India continues unabated, India can soon become a global job hub."

WP Same as everywhere, get a job and you can apply for work permit. Easy yeah!!

ILR => no such category.

You can get PIO (Person Of Indian Origin) card if any of ur ancestors were Indian ( u can go upto 4 generations)
PIO card carries Work permit in it and u have all rights as any Indian except political rights and u can't buy Agricultural Land.

Or

U get PIO card if u r married to Indian citizen.

Or
you can apply for Indian citizenship if u r staying here for continous 5 years.

Or
You get Indian citizenship if u r Extraordinary Human being and some kindda intellectual. Process is simple Write to President of India and prove that u r intel.. and u get Citizenship.

(The last one i came to know caz i met a Belge who teaches Hindi in some of Indian University )
Though the last clause is not in Indian constitution - it's exceptional.

Remember Indian Visa rules as as tough as any other country's.

Tourist Visa can't be extended in any case.
And blah blah....

And last but not the least.
Brits get Indian Citizenship free, after all we had Centuries of peaceful co-existance

really will they ? Can they ?
Free trade ? WTO ? all go to hell ?

What if India also does same.
Coca Cola.. Pepsi.. IBM..

To remind once it had happened they were thrown outta india mercilessly

So forget about that, no one gonna ban outsourcing. There will be chaos.

After sometimes world gonna live with it. Take my words.
