I saw the similar topic but it is for student visa. As my situation is similar I wanted to ask you:
Do you think that if my passport is valid for less than a year I should change it before applying for EC.
In my current I have a number of UK visas which I thought might be helpful.
Thanks

6 months or more should be fine - you should allow for delay in processing though, even though that said by some people in HO that they are not supposed to endorse passport with leave to remain exceeding passports validity, however this is happening left right and center and I dont think they can just NOT do it without this policy being put in writing.

Thanks RBloke. I am just not so sure when I will manage to send my docs, so depending on that I may or may not have 6 months. I'll have that in mind and may be go for a new one if I have less than 6 months at the time of EC application. Cheers

Advantage of having long term validity ppt is that it covers validity of long term visa issued saving you the application fees for transfer of visa to new ppts. In the old days it was easy to carry new ppt and old ppt if travelling abroad then get free transfer at Port of Entry. Immigration rules have been amended and IO will only give 6 mths max visa at POE although they have discretionary powers to grant longer time.

You will end up having to post your extension application to the HO for GBP 155 or an in person at a Public Enquiry Office for GBP 250 - these fees are current but bound to rise). Note HO staff are on strike over money issues - where do you think their pay rise will come from apart from these fees so don't expect much discretion

Additional hassles include if using ppt as ID - increasingly required then validity is key. Also those hoping to travel into Europe/ US + other third countries will find getting visa's a pain cos you need a valid ppt. IMHO best to get new ppt but do NOT let you current visa if in UK expire just to renew a ppt for a FLR application.

Thanks Kayalami .
I might think about renewing then. It is easy to bring old and new passports to the embassy so they can see old visas rather than travelling with a visa in the old passport.
Talking about money do you think HSMP may judge different just bacause I am not paying my application - I am citizen of an exempt country?
Cheers

NO it will not affect your application positively or negatively. You might want to include a cover note in your application to the effect that you are a fee exempt national.

Now that the immigration people are on strike...does that mean that there is no immigration control at POE
