The Supply Teachers Agencies were allowed to apply for a teacher's work permit 1 year and half ago as I had at school a colleague who got a work permit by such agency. I don't know if this is possible now-a-days but maybe you can find out from the website of UK workpermits. Anyway, it's not such a good idea to come to work in the UK by being employed by an agency, as the work experience gained while working for agency is not taken into consideration when points on the pay scale are given. At the same time, if you want to settle in the UK, you need to get a teaching qualification here, otherwisw you will be allowed to work for only 4 years (teaching profession is regulated here), and when you are working for an agency is quite difficult if not impossible to get the qualification. The best thing to do is to come through a teacher recruitment agency, which is not charging you anything (they charge the schools) and in this way you will be employed by school itself. As a personal advice, when you consider coming to work here as a teacher, take into consideration the actual students' behaviour which I can't say is the best one .

I am fairly certain that I read a while ago on the IND website that teaching supply agencies were no longer allowed to hire employees directly (and thus apply for work permits for them). Teachers must be sponsored by their direct employer.
