Now, Indians can send forex abroad

IANS[ WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 04, 2004 10:04:54 PM ]

NEW DELHI : Enthused by all time high foreign exchange reserves, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the country's central bank, said Wednesday it would allow resident Indians to send up to $25,000 per year overseas.

"This facility is available for making remittances up to $25,000 per calendar year for any current or capital account transaction or a combination of both," said a RBI statement issued here.

All resident individuals are eligible to avail of the facility, it said.

Under this facility, individuals will be free to acquire and hold immovable property or shares or any other asset outside India without the RBI's prior approval.

Individuals will also be able to open, maintain and hold foreign currency accounts with a bank outside India for making remittances under the scheme, said the central bank.

The remittance facility is in addition to schemes already available to resident Indians for private travel, business travel, gift remittances, donations, studies and medical treatment.

The scheme will come into operation with immediate effect.

This is supposed to be the UK immigration board. This thread should be removed. Nobody here asked about transfering funds to UK so there is no point starting this thread.

Studyuk24, somebody did start the thread - this is an immigration board -foreigners visit this site to get information - this thread is for Indians - those in the UK already may not have access to this information.

The purpose of this board is to assist other HSMP / WP members by sharing information - for your information - this is exactly what just happened.

Btw - I am not Indian but still made interesting news to read - Tx Ajay!

Ajay,

I think people migrating from other countries where exchange controls exist, should share their experience and expertise on this area to help their other countrymen wanting to migrate overseas.

Quite a large number of forum members appear to be from India and I am sure they will find this information extremely useful. I am glad JayGee found it useful too.

JayGee - What's the latest on convertibility of the Rand? Its strength over the past two years must be helping a lot of South Africans to fall into the higher income group for HSMP? Good time to apply for HSMP!!

Regards
Dip

Dip, tx for your earlier mail.

The Rand is getting better - by the day - it i still flucuating quite a bit - one day at R12.90/GBP1 next few day at R12.55/GP1 but it is now much better than a few months ago where the Rand was at an all time low of R24/GBP1.

I recall when it was like everyone jumped to UK to earn pounds - then sent money back home and was quite a whack of cash going around - now different story though!

Can you believe that Doncaster still did not process my application - no charge against my credit card as yet - strange!!

I am amazed this thread is not being removed. Its a UK immigration board and should have no place for Indian foreign currency laws.

The original post is extremely relevant because the HSMP rules state that the applicants are able to support themselves in the UK without using public funds. Since this may require applicants to remit some of their savings from their home country, this is very relevant for Indian applicants.

Indian applicants continue to be one of the largest groups of applicants here. The new rules help them to better comply with the HSMP and other immigration rules.

Hey Joseph,

Long time no see. Welcome back Sir!

Dip

PS: Psssstt....I had earlier suggested somebody that they keep talking; someday they will have something intelligent to say!!
I can see positive efforts - but all in the wrong direction.

Joseph,
I admit that this news is important for the Indians wanting to transfer money from India, but its not related to UK immigration matters. People from all over the world visit this board. Imagine each of them start posting such info on this forum. There will be no immigration forum left.
I hope the moderators understand.

Hey Study, calm down buddy,
dont make this board muddy,
do some study......

You are the worst possible poster on this board ! And hey dont imagine sooooooooooo much. Dont try to think.....understand that there is still democracy in this world and if you were ever taught to count.....you would know there is overwhelming majority on this that these are relevant messages for us all !!!!

Hey Yana,

You should be banned for making personal and derogatory remarks. Thats what the terms of use of this board say any way. Click on the link and read it. May be moderators can do something.

Posting inappropriate stuff on an immigration board has nothing to do with democracy.

Sincere efforts and right direction? Some of the words were later edited (probably out of shame)

Dip,

Take it easy brother. Take your head out of your @rse before typing. Dont be so upset. I was just quoting some facts. Its not my fault if South Asian countries are dirty, smelly and corrupt.

I dont understand why everyone here is so upset. All I did was mention some facts.

Indians here try to use derogatory language against every other nation and country.

Lets see who gets banned after me.

Besides, if someone gets banned from this site, will they have to f*** themselves like you?

OK OK OK, I am sorry for writing all this. You must be upset. You should not be upset as you have to stand outside the British embassy at 4 AM.

Oh God, only a pathetic and desperate person will stand outside the embassy at 4AM.

Studyuk - I wanted to ignore you for good. But on second thoughts, the board will be dull without some silly stuff from you. Your posts keep everyone wondering what you are upto. I am amazed you still didnt get the clue!

...by the way, this is a relevant post on the forum and in the unlikely event that it is deleted, (note - extremely unlikely) ..... The moderators will have more to answer in terms of your continuation on the board and they wouldn't risk that.

I am at a loss of words describe you, but can echo my sentiments (with a slight twist).....

....Continue talking; someday you will have something intelligent to say (perhaps accidentally)

No Dip,

I am yet to apply for ILR. I have to really think whether to apply for residence of country where objects like studyuk are citizens.

Studyuk,

those were not personal and derogatory comments. they are really 'object'ive and greatly underestimations.

StudyUK,
This is the last time I'll tolerate any derogatory stuff from you. Another repetition and you'll be banned from posting here.

Board Admin,

No offence intended, but how do we really know that you are the Board Administrator?

After all, you are a Junior Member who just made 4 posts since September, which seem a little out of synch with Peteris's recent posts...

Smart one that Joseph!! From the membership number I thought it could be a new Admin id created by Peteris, which is why there were only a few posts. Never checked the dates...

I stand corrected in assuming things unless clarified by Peteris.

Joseph - Thanks for pointing that out and I too would expect the Board admin/Peteris to respond to your query.

Failing which, I will delete my previous post - welcoming you to the board.

Once again no offence meant Mr Admin!!!!

Dip
