Hiya,

Did you get your ILR in one day at Croydon? If so can you describe your experience. When did you get there? How long did it take etc?

Cheers,

marka

Congratulations.

You can apply for citizenship one year from now - provided you meet the criteria. refer to the Homeoffice website.

Depends on whether or not you are the spouse of a British Citizen. If yes then you can apply for ILR immediatley subject to meeting the residence criteria i.e. have lived in the UK for 3 yrs with not more than 270 days outside this period. Further in the last year you must not have been outside UK for more than 90 days - this is inclusive of the 270 days not in addition too.

If your spouse is not a BC you have to wait till you have held ILR for a year. You can then apply for BC if you have lived in the UK for 5 years. Not more than 450 days must have been spent outside UK and again not more than 90 days must have been spent outside UK in last year. The Home Secretary has discretionary powers over residence times. You will find more info on the applying for British Nationality section of the IND website.

Good Luck

Dear all,

Thanks very much.

I waited nearly 1.5 years to get ILR because my case was not straightfarward - under 10 year category.

I am single so I would have to wait one year for citizenship! Am I right?

best wishes
Tariq

Correct - 10yrs....were these as a student? At least you should have no probs with the residence requirements
