It gather that after having a UK work permit for 4 years, I can apply for ILR. My question is: does this 4 year needs to be consecutive? How about if I use work permit for 1 year, then another visa, then work permit again for 3 years? Will I be able to add up the time of all the work permit (1 year + 3 year), or the clock will start from 0 again from the 2nd time I use the work permit? Thanks.

If your "other visa" is in a category leading to settlement, then time can amalgamate, if not (e.g., student) then the clock strats from 0 next time you are on WP.
