The Doncaster team recived my application on Feb 11th. (1)How long will the processing take,(2)is there a way of tracking the progress of my application. (3) How long do you have to enter the UK from the time of approval?

I also applied pretty much on the same dates. I can answer your first and partially your third question. The home office is suggesting that it will take four weeks for them to process the case. You have three months within which you should obtain entry clearance after HSMP approval.

If your question is asking how long before you can enter the UK, I believe that your dates are stamped in your passport - hence you cannot come earlier than date mentioned.

If your question is asking how long after being granted EC you can enter the UK, I also believe anytime within the alotted 12 month period - just be careful for the ILR requirements later.

There is a requirement to spend no more than 3 months outside UK. So if you do not indend to leave in the next 9 months I suppose you can allow 3 months. Cheers

Current processing time is said to be 6-8 weeks. Suppose it is 8 weeks. Then you have 3 montsh to apply for IRL and then another 3 months to enter the UK. I think you should apply for IRL ate least 2 weeks before end. so in total you should have about 6-7 months depending on how lond HSMP team will delay the decision. I think you can act in April. This should be enough so you can leave in October. Cheers

1. Current quoted processing time is 6 - 8 weeks. This is an average and some applications are being resolved earlier than this and some much later. To minimise processing times you want to ensure that the HSMP Team do not ask you for further info. Submit all the required documents and make sure its relevant and substantive especially for the work experience/ job description areas. Feedback from contacts indicate that applicants claiming self employed points get the most scrutiny.

2. Only through calling the HSMP Team. IMHO there is no point of calling them before the stated processing times i.e. 8 weeks.

3. If your application is successful the HSMP team issue a HSMP approval letter valid for 3 months from the date of issue. You must apply for your HSMP Visa at the relevant British Diplomatic Post (High Commission, Embassy or Consulate) within the validity of the HSMP approval letter.

4. The HSMP visa is issued for 12 months. Most applicants wanting to delay their entry into the UK apply for the HSMP visa towards the end of the validity of their HSMP approval letter. Local practice at some BDP's allows you to request the ECO to issue your visa dated the last day of the HSMP approval letter even if you apply earleir than this. You can enter the UK within the validity of the HSMP visa i.e. even on the last day.

5. Evidence on the board shows that those who delay their entry into the UK until well into their initial HSMP visa validity i.e. post 6 mths unless they are coming to a job have the least success for HSMP renewal.

Good Luck
