This is a very 'theoretical' Qn.

What is the ideal amout of money/bank balance is one expected to have on the account when they apply for HSMP renewal at the end of first year (no depedents).

I assume that there was economic activity - in terms of employment applications but no 'job' obtained!!!!!.

I remember Joseph01 got his renewal whilst unemployed, but his case was supported in various ways including property ownership.

This may look a bizzare Q, but someone could spend a whole year without being employed but with a 'healthy' bank balance!!!

BTW, where is Pixi?...we need an update on HER job hunting!!!!

If one is unemployed (hence no enconomic activity!) albeit a healthy bank balance, I would certainly start a small business with the least capital, consequently showing some activity on bank a/c and present that as "economic activity" for HSMP renewal.

I certainly believe that economic activity is not only about getting a job - HSMP allows you to start a business.

hiya! thanks for asking. i arrived in january and have been freelancing steadily for a couple of different clients since feb. i spent my first month pounding the pavement and went on 29 interviews. only a handful of them were for jobs that actually existed; the others were "meet and greets" which may or may not turn into something down the road. (for those who don't know my background, i'm an advertising copywriter from new york).

while i'm at it, i've got a quesiton. i read about the 8-week backlog on applications. does this also apply to extensions? my current visa expires end of june. when should i begin renewal application procedures?

joseph, e-mail me if you'd still like to get in touch--i think i have old contact info for you.
